PLEASE NOTE! THIS IS A LIVE, OPEN TO THE PUBLIC BEER FEST STYLE COMPETITION!! Entrants agree to arrive in person on the competition day to pour their beers for the public. While participants do not need to offer the same beer as they submitted for the BJCP judging porrtion of the competition, they must agree to participate in the festival portion.

DWW Homebrewers Rules and Guidelines

This competition is AHA sanctioned and open to any amateur homebrewer age 21 or older.

  •  All entries must be brought to the drop-off location the day of the competition. See competition site for drop off location.
  • All entries must be handcrafted products, containing ingredients available to the general public, and made using private equipment by hobbyist brewers (i.e., no use of commercial facilities or Brew on Premises operations, supplies, etc.).
  • The competition organizers are not responsible for mis-categorized entries or entries that arrived damaged.
  • Entrants must be available to serve their brews to the public during the festival portion of the competition.  It is not compulsory for entrants to serve the particular beer they entered for judging and are encouraged to serve any number of brews during the festival, with the goal of being able to serve potentially 100+ attendees.
  • Entrants can serve from keg, bottle, or can, but must bring all necessary equipment to do so.
  • Entrants must provide a table or other suitable construct no larger than 4’x8’.
  • As the festival will be at least partially outdoors, entrants that want to bring a canopy are encouraged to do so. Also bringing camp or folding chairs is recommended.
  • Entrants are permitted to bring snacks to provide to attendees, as well as merch, signage, or other marketing materials.
  • Entrants will receive 4 wristbands, allowing them to bring up to 3 assistants without the need for entry fees.
  • Entrants will be provided an allotment of ice.
  • Attendees will receive a wristband and 5oz sample glass. Entrants agree to serve only those with wristbands. If entrant so desires, they need to make accommodations to rinse glasses of attendees.

Entry Guidelines

Competitors are allowed to only submit one beer to be judged. Each individual entry should be submitted as two bottles or cans, without distinguishing marks on the can, bottle, or cap. Preferred bottle size 12-16oz, caps with markings can be blacked out with a sharpie. Entries must be accompanied by the completed entry form attached by a rubber band. Enclosing the form in a plastic bag and using two elastic bands is recommended. Entries will not be returned to entrants.  Entries will be accepted on the competition site through April 29th, 2025, but may close earlier if the total number of entries are reached at an earlier date.

Entry Drop Off and Festival Set Up

Entries will be accepted at the competition location beginning at 9:30am. Entrants can then set up for the festival, with all entrants ready for the public by 10:45am. Results of the judging, as well as the People’s Choice and Brewer’s Choice winners will be announced shortly before the festival end time of 2:00pm. As the host brewery is graciously allowing for the use of space during business hours, entrants are strongly encouraged to break down and remove their beer, equipment, and paraphernalia promptly at 2pm to allow the brewery to conduct its normal business. Entrants and attendees are encouraged to stay after breakdown for camaraderie and beers.

Competition Categories and Judging Process

Qualified judging of all entries is the primary goal of our event. Judges will evaluate and score each entry. The average of the scores will rank each entry. Each flight will have at least one BJCP judge. The electronic AHA/BJCP “structured scoresheet" will be used.  This limited scale competition will not involve preliminary category judging. Instead all entrants will be judged to their style for Best of Show honors. Please be sure to complete all necessary entry details in the “information” field as needed for each entry. Failure to include all entry information requested may negatively impact the judges ability to judge each entry.

Not only will the top three entries as determined by the judges receive prizes, there will also be a prize for the People’s Choice brewer determined by the attendees and a Brewer’s Choice winning beer, as determined by the host brewery.
